GAME OF DEATH/Panoksena Kuolema/FIx/cut
4 min 3 sec. The distributor trimmed this Bruce Lee flick quite a
lot, even though several very violent fights are completely
intact. 1.The cool fight between Billy Lo (Bruce
Lee) and Pasqual (Danny Inosanto) is completely cut out! This (probably
the best fight in the movie) features Lo climbing up the stairs
to the second floor, and picking up a pair of nunchucks, and a
sharp stick from the wall. In the second floor, he finds Pasqual
(armed with red nunchucks), whom he first fights with the stick,
and then with his own pair of nunchucks (which are orange),
resulting into a lot of nunchuck-twirling from both parts, and Lo
finally snapping Pasqual's neck with a nunchuck chain (groovy!).
He then leaves the body, and climbs the next set of stairs. This
is all cut out, 3 minutes and 40 seconds in a row! You can
actually spot a glimpse of this fight uncut, because the opening-credits
feature clips from older Bruce Lee-movies, and when Danny
Inosanto's credit comes on the screen, above it you can see a
small sphere showing a clip from the deleted fight! 2.The back-breaking
of the baddie dressed all in white, has lost few frames. 3.The
classic battle of Lo vs Hakim (Kareem-Abdul Jabbar) has lost Lo
punching Hakim to the balls, Hakim falling down, and then rising
up. The closing-credits (which like the opening-credits, show
clips from Bruce Lee movies) have been cut; 4.A clip from "Fist
Of Fury": lost Lee kicking The Russian in the head (shown in
a close-up). 5.A clip from "Fist Of Fury": Lee chopping
The Russian's throat, is cut out. 6.A clip from "Way Of The
Dragon" showing the nunchuck-fight in the yard has been
completely cut out, at the same time removing several crew
credits from the movie! Because of the closing-credits cuts, the
back ground score lasts about 15 extra seconds after the fadeout.
NOTE: The Finnish dvd-version (anamorphic widescreen, rated K18)
is uncut. The British cert.18-videoversion has cuts totalling
only 2 seconds in courtesy of the BBFC (a clip of Lee twirling
nunchucks in "Way Of The Dragon", is cut), but the Lo
vs Pasqual fight is pre-cut, and completely missing - the UK dvd
also certified '18' is fully uncut, anamorphic widescreen, and
contains superior extras. The Video-CD from Malaysia is missing
the entire 3rd floor fight scene (the one of Lo vs the guy in
white). A fight in a dark garden, is visible in the film's HK
trailer, where Billy Lo (now played by Bruce's stunt-double!)
fights a thug dressed in black, isn't present in any version of
the movie at all - it was (probably) cut out prior to the film's
first release to shorten the running time (it was actually added
to the movie's sequel made later!).
GAUNTLET/Luotikuja/FI/K16/cut 8 sec. The cuts have been made to the fights, and close-ups of a bloodied leg. NOTE: The Finnish dvd-version (widescreen) passed uncut with a K16-rating. The Finnish theatrical version was rated K18 and cut by 28 seconds!
GLADIATOR/Gladiaattori/FI/K16/cut 1 min 49 sec. The 1992 movie. Why in the god's heaven is this flick so extremely heavily cut?! And why is all the "Rocky" movies passed uncut in Finland, and not this..? Huh? Oh, well. The cuts include the most brutal shots of the boxing fights, a baddie kicking his opponent's face when the opponent is down, and the final battle in bare fists is shortened too. NOTE: The Finnish dvd-version is rated K18, widescreen, and uncut. The Finnish cinema-version is uncut, and with a K18-rating. The Australian video rated M+15 is cut from some boxing violence.
THE GLIMMER MAN/FI/K16/cut 1 min 13 sec.
Another nice Steven Seagal-flick. In this one, he "plays"
a hard-boiled buddhist cop! The cuts, which have been made by VET
(kind of hard to believe, given that the cuts are so idiotic),
are as follows: 1.In the first fight in the movie, Campbell (Wayans
clan ringleader Keenen Ivory Wayans) beating a thug against a car
with his elbow, and right after that, Cole (Seagal) picking an
Oriental thug up from the ground, and snapping his arm, are
removed (7 secs). 2.The scene right after the first fight, where
Campbell "speaks russian", even though it's about as
violent as "Lassie Come Home", is edited briefly, but
poorly (3 secs). 3.The scene, where the assassin attacks Campbell's
flat, has lost the assassin punching Campbell a couple of times,
then Campbell crashing a glass vase to the assassin's head, the
assassin punching and roundhouse kicking him, and then throwing
him to the kitchen. All cut in a row (14 secs). 4.Now this is
freakin' weird. The scene where Cole beats up the two fake cops
with a gun, is shortened. But not from the hits, but a small
segment of the thugs' car almost crashing to a truck, but Cole
turning the wheel, is completely cut out. But this features only
a few minor hits, while the heavy hits are intact (12 secs). 5.Cole
shooting Smith's left palm, has lost the shot of the bullet
hitting it (1 sec). 6.In the final battle, once Cole has first
knocked the bossbaddie down, Cole throwing him to the desk, and
repeatedly punching him, and then throwing him back to the floor.
Where he gets up, and attacks Cole, and Cole defends himself by
bashing him with a phone, and the bossbaddie flies into the floor
again. There he again gets up, and here comes the famous "Gimme
your best shot", where the bossbaddie tries to kick Cole,
while Cole criticizes his skills. Then Cole (of course) kicks him
again, and the bossbaddie falls to the floor again. This all has
been cut out in a row (36 secs!!!). NOTE: The Swedish
videoversion is uncut. The British cert.18-videoversion is cut 9
seconds: Seagal beating a thug with his gun (in the car)
repeatedly has been deleted, and the final battle has lost Seagal
punching the bossbaddie up the nose repeatedly, making it bloody.
Strangely enough, both of these cuts are intact in the otherwise
heavily cut Finnish video!
GOD'S ARMY/Paholaisarmeija/FI/K16/cut 1 min 43 sec! The stupid distributor went bananas, and trimmed this fine horror flick to pieces! 1.The short battle between Uziel and Simon (Eric Stoltz) is shortened. 2.The death of Uziel has been briefly cut. 3.The burning of Simon is shortened. 4.The scene where Gabriel (excellent Christopher Walken) rips Simon's heart out, is shortened. 5.The scene where Gabriel beats Thomas, is shortened. 6..The scene where Thomas beats Gabriel with a crowbar is shortened. 7.The scene where Lucifer rips Gabriel's heart out, is shortened. 8.Lucifer eating Gabriel's heart is no more. NOTE: The Finnish dvd-version is uncut (but unfortunately full screen pan & scan cropped somewhat from the original 2.35:1 Super-35 image), and rated K18. The Finnish theatrical version was rated K18 and uncut. The Swedish videoversion is uncut. The US dvd-version (titled "Prophecy") is uncut and widescreen.
GOLDEN EYE/007 Kultainen Silmä/FI/K16/cut 14 sec / 13 sec. The Finnish videoversion is uncut, but the Finnish dvd-version, and the dvd-version re-release contain pre-cuts (the first 14 seconds from the German censor, and the latter 13 seconds from the BBFC). The initial Finnish widescreen dvd-version cut by the German censor (to archieve a 'FSK12' rating) cuts Onatopp showing signs of pleasure after she's shot the Severnya crew (completely cut out [!]), the death of Onatopp is also shorter (missing Bond's one-liner She did always enjoy a good squeeze), and the exploded Goldeneye controller ruins falling over Travelyan has been completely removed. The widescreen Special Edition dvd has the German cuts intact, but replaced with 13 seconds of BBFC cuts made for a '12' certificate: *The amiral's death by Onatopp has lost the most graphic shot. *After Natalya attacks towards Onatopp, and Onatopp grabs her and says Wait for your turn and then headbutts her, but the BBFC-approved version has no sight of the headbutt left. *Cut: Travelyan headbutting Bond while they're fighting, followed by Bond blocking Travelyan's hits, and twisting his arm (a quite poorly made edit). *While Travelyan and Bond are on the edge, Travelyan strangling Bond is shortened. *After Travelyan has noticed Natalya pointing a gun at the pilot, Bond headbutting Travelyan is cut. Also almost all of the graphic sound-fx are heavily muffled, especially from all of the punches, and from the death of Onatopp. According to the BBFC, the 'Making Of' featurette in the disc is also cut 1 second by the British censor, but the onatopp headbutt is actually intact in the featurette no matter what the BBFC states. The 2004 Finnish dvd release (rated K15, widescreen, containing no extras) is completely uncut.
GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS DVD THEATRICAL TRAILER/FI/cut. The Finnish dvd of the remake of "Gone In Sixty Seconds" is the same as the UK dvd, which has the theatrical trailer featured on the dvd slightly cut by the BBFC for a '15' certificate. The BBFC comments: 'To obtain this category cuts of 0m 0s were required., some or all of these cuts were substitutions. The cuts were Compulsory. Cut required to detail of car breaking technique in a trailer, in accordence with BBFC policy. Passed 15 with cut made'. As far as I know, the censored shot still is featured in the BBFC-approved (with the same '15' certificate) movie itself, so it seems they're a bit more harsh with trailers. NOTE: The Finnish cinema- and videoversions of the trailer are uncut, and so is the one featured in the R1 US dvd.
THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY/Hyvät, Pahat, Ja Rumat/FI/K16/cut. The Finnish video of this good Sergio Leone movie at least has the prison camp interrogation/torturing of Tuco shortened. NOTE: There is a FI tape re-release that is rated K15. The Finnish 2003 theatrical re-release is the Italian cut (though with a fresh complete English soundtrack), that has 14 minutes of additional scenes; this was passed uncut from VET with a K15-rating; the uncut Finnish special edition dvd also bares this rating.
GORGEOUS DVD TRAILER/FI/cut 6 sec. The Finnish dvd of the lame Jackie Chan flick "Gorgeous" is identical to the UK one, which has the trailer trimmed by the BBFC. The BBFC comments: "To obtain this category cuts of 0m 6s were required., some or all of these cuts were substitutions. The cuts were Compulsory. Three cuts to weapon and violence required in order to accommodate trailer at ' PG ' in line with feature which is also ' PG '. Trailers cannot be higher than feature category". The BBFC really seems to be more strict with trailers, 'cause as far as I know, the feature has the footage censored from the trailer intact.
THE GREAT SILENCE/Suuri Hiljaisuus/FIx/cut.
The best western-movie ever made...with a German soundtrack, and
even with cuts?! A disgrace!!! The famous "shooting of a
thumb in a close-up" has survived intact from the scissors,
but at least the graphic cenocide near the end of the movie has
been cut about 20 seconds. Even one nano-second taken away from
this divine classic is a crime to humanity! Available on two
different covers; they both contain the same cut version. NOTE:
The US dvd (R0) is uncut, widescreen 1.66:1, and contains some
nice extras (like an alternative happy ending, which is as
extreme in its happiness, as the original ending is in its
nihilism). BONUS: Click the cover for a deluxe-sized
presentation.

HALLELUJA/FIc/K16/cut. 1970 Finnish movie from director Erkki Seiro. The cuts were made before its premiere theatrical release.
HALLOWEEN 2/FIx/cut 22 sec. The distributor Video Express Scandinavia released a lot of cult classics in the 80's before the video act, such as "Silent Night, Deadly Night", "Revenge Of The Ninja", and "Pray For Death", but unfortunately heavily cut. So, when they released "Halloween 2" they did the usual thing, and cut it a couple of dozen seconds. These cut scenes include a hammer (or whatever?) to the head, burning, the cruel drowning-to-the-hot-water murder, an injection needle to the nurse's eye, and the throat slit of the marshall. NOTE: The FIx-version released by Omaxi (Finnish title "Halloween 2: Tappajan Paluu") is UNCENSORED, and in WIDESCREEN!!! The Finnish theatrical version was cut by 1 minute and 53 seconds, and rated K18 to boot! The Finnish dvd is uncut and anamorphic widescreen. The British cert.18-videoversion is cut 17 seconds (the special edition Halloween / Halloween 2 double feature video slipped through uncut): the cuts are applied to the drowning-in-the-hot-water scene to remove several thrusts to the hot water, a close-up of the woman's burnt face, and Michael finally throwing the body on the floor.
HALLOWEEN 3: THE SEASON OF THE WITCH/Halloween
3: Pahuuden Yö/FIx/cut 2 min 39 sec. The cuts are on the most
goriest scenes: 1.A man sticking his fingers to a man's eyes (heavily
cut). 2.The death of the bum is completely deleted (this includes
Cochran's thug ripping the bum's head off). 3.The death of the
woman in the hotel (where she is zipped with a halloween-mask
mechanism). 4.The scene where a boy's face goes awry inside a
halloween-mask is heavily cut. 5.The battle between Tom Atkins
and his girlfriend-robo (Atkins ripping the robo's limbs and head
off) is shortened very heavily. NOTE: The FI tape rated K16
released in the 90's by Scanbox (Finnish title "Halloween:
Season Of The Witch") was passed uncut. The British cert.15-videoversion
is cut 2 minutes and 6 seconds (the otherwise cut FIx-version
includes material cut from this, like from the sex scene, and
death of the nurse) - the UK dvd released by Sanctuary is
reported uncut in some sources, but the aspect ratio is cropped
from the original Panavision 2.35:1 to a mere 1.78:1 - strangely,
the UK dvd from the usually reliable Anchor Bay (that's included
in the "Halloween Ultimate Collection" dvd box) is
reported cut. The older Swedish videoversion is also heavily
chopped up. The Australian dvd-version is shortened.
HAPPY GILMORE/FI/K12/cut 55 sec. The Finnish dvd-version of this crappy Adam Sandler vehicle is the same as the UK dvd, which has been censored for the BBFC '12' certificate from the language (at least the golf tournament airings have been further bleeped to completely remove all the Fucks). NOTE: The Finnish videoversion (also rated K12) is uncensored.
HARD-BOILED/FIc/K18/cut 3 sec. When this John Woo's action-classic was given to VET in the early 90's, those pricks gave it KK (banned). Still, VET granted a K18-rating after they made two brief cuts to the movie: 1.In the tea-house massacre, Tequila's (excellent Chow-Yun Fat) partner firing at a baddie who has a human shield with an Uzi, is reduced. 2.The bossbaddie getting a bullet to his eye, is no more. NOTE: The British cert.18-videoversion has 5 seconds worth of cuts: the beating of an informer has lost a karate chop to the chest, a side kick in the rib cage, and the informer's head being flung against steel pole railings. There are two British dvd-versions (both cert.18), the first release has the BBFC cuts, and the latter has the BBFC cuts intact (this is mentioned on the disc cover).
HARDCORE/Alaston Yö/FI/K16/cut 37 sec. Oh my
God, that's my daughter!!! The cuts in this sleazoid include
several shots from the sex show, the Peep show scene is reduced,
and the climatic shooting has been cut. NOTE: The FIx-version (above
on the right) is uncut.
HARD TARGET/FI/K16/cut 5 min 47 sec!!! What the FUCK?!!! First this John Woo's ok US debut was brought to Finland as the extremely heavily cut US R-rated version, shorn about 3 minutes (cut by the MPAA), and the distributor made 5 minutes and 47 seconds of additional cuts! At least the fight scene in the beginning is VERY heavily cut (including Chance [Jean-Claude Van Damme] kicking a goon standing on a car, Chance bashing a goon's head to a hydrant, and Chance breaking a goon's arm), and the high kick in the finale from Chance to Fouchon (Lance Henriksen) is cut out, and lots of gunplay has also been deleted. NOTE: The Finnish cinema-version (with an K18-rating) is identical to the US R-rated version, and it has no additional cuts. The Finnish dvd-version (non-anamorphic widescreen, rated K18) is the unrated uncut version, with all of the MPAA cuts intact (same as the UK videoversion, which was promoted as "Uncensored"). The bootleg workprint version, the so-called "Director's Cut" has even more violence, and some additional scenes/dialogue, and it also has a lot of alternative footage, and some footage actually missing which is included in the official versions. The US dvd is anamorphic widescreen, but unfortunately it's the R-rated cut.
HARD TO KILL/Vaikeasti Tapettava/FI/K16/cut. The cuts include Storm (Steven Seagal) snapping a thug's leg in the store, thugs shooting Storm along with his wife, Storm kicking a thug and crashing him through a glassdresser, Storm snapping a thug's neck, and Storm sticking a pool cane to a thug's neck and kicking him. NOTE: The Finnish dvd-version (ws, rated K18) is uncut. The British 18-rated video has been cut 12 seconds, the cuts applied to Storm kicking the pool cane-stabbed thug in the head, and Storm shoving a shotgun to the Senator's mouth. The cut Finnish videoversion has the Senator scene intact.
HELLRAISER/FIx/cut 1 min 39 sec. The
shortened scenes are as follows: 1.The first murder (with a
hammer) is shortened by 9 seconds. 2.While Larry and Julia are
kissing in the bed, "skinny" Frank walks in the room,
and slices a dead rat in half...or rather doesn't (poorly cut). 3.The
death of Julia is lost Frank pulling the knife out. 4.When Kirsty
goes hidden into the attic from Frank, a corpse with maggots
coming out from its mouth, is found, but not in the FIx-version.
Frank's ultimate juicy demise is pretty heavily shortened: 5.First,
a hook pulling him forward from his thumb, and new hooks digging
in. 6.Dozens of hooks digging in, and ripping his flesh in superb
close-ups! Also shots of Kirsty, and the cenobites are omitted.
Also, when digging is stopped, and Frank shows his comedian
abilities is completely deleted (poorly). 7.The hooks ripping him
completely with a supremo graphic splattery explosion is no more.
NOTE: The Finnish dvd-version (widescreen) with a K18-rating is
uncut. The British cert.18-videoversion is cut 4 seconds: the
first murder has lost the victim crying Please, please
and the followed hammering. The Japanese versions have been
censored.
HELLYYS/FIc/cut. Movie by Jörn Donner which was cut by VET in its theatrical release back in 1972. Judging by Donner's other movies, the cuts were likely to have been made to sexual content. NOTE: The Finnish videoversion (rated K16) possibly is uncut.
HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER/Henry Lee Lucas - Sarjamurhaaja/FI/K16/cut 1 min 19 sec. The cuts made by the distributor include the stabbing of the tv-salesman, some grisly shots of corpses, some shortions have been made to "the home video" scene as well, and the killing and chopping of Otis near the end of the movie has lost some gore too. NOTE: The Finnish dvd-version released by Future Film rated K18 is uncut. The UK cert.18-videoversion has been chopped 1 minute and 53 seconds! The cuts are to the scene showing a dead whore with a broken bottle on her face (entire scene cut out!), the stabbing of the sleazy TV salesman has lost most of the stabs, and "the home video" scene is very heavily cut and re-edited (removing Henry killing the kid, Otis snapping the woman's neck, and all of Otis sexually molesting the woman's body). The UK dvd-version certified '18' has most of the UK cert.18-videoversion's cuts restored, though it's still missing 48 seconds (the scene showing the broken-bottle-in-the-face whore, and Otis sexually molesting the woman's body). The UK dvd re-release (again bearing the '18' certificate) was suprisingly passed uncut from the BBFC. The Finnish cinema-version was pre-cut by the distributor and rated K18.
HERRA SOTAMINISTERI/FIc/cut 30 sec. During this 1957 Finnish film's release, few scenes of boozing were removed, which VET feared would be "harmful for the youth".
THE HIDDEN/Pahan Naamio/FI/K16/cut about 5 min 30
sec. This is a complete torso, with cuts that are very annoying
to watch, because they're so poorly made. The cuts are as follows
(uh-oh..): Possessed DeVries running over a man in a wheelchair
with his Ferrari, possessed DeVries running over some
construction men, possessed DeVries laughing at the cops and the
cops blasting his Ferrari, the part of the "resurrection"
scene where possessed DeVries throws up the alienbug to the
comatose Miller's mouth, possessed Miller strangling and shooting
Eddie, the following scene showing the playboy sniffing cocaine
with the car salesman (along with some really funny dialogue),
couple of frames from the scene where the alienbug's tail comes
out of Miller's hand, Beck and Gallacher (excellent Kyle
MacLachlan) shooting the possessed stripper (heavily and poorly
edited), Gallacher shooting the possessed stripper and taking his
zip-gun along with the stripper saying You think it's over?
You're wrong (this all is actually cut!), Masterson's dog
walking towards the dead stripper and the dead stripper attacking
the dog (!), Masterson bashing his head to the fridge door,
possessed Masterson shooting a black cop, possessed Masterson
shooting a con and Beck shooting towards possessed Masterson,
possessed Willis shooting a security guard to the neck, a big
chunk where a security guard shoots possessed Willis and
possessed Willis shooting a security guard and security guard
shooting possessed Willis and possessed Willis shooting the
security guard and Gallacher shooting possessed Willis (goddammit!),
Gallacher shooting possessed Willis again, possessed Willis
shooting Beck, (and then again:) a security guard shooting
possessed Willis and (Suprise! Suprise!) possessed Willis
shooting the security guard, possessed Willis shooting couple
shots to the last security guard, the WHOLE finale of the climax
is cut; The alienbug coming out of the possessed senator's mouth
and Gallacher zapping it with his zip-gun (some shots of the
guards shooting Gallacher are cut also). So, in this version the
audience doesn't even get to find out what the alienbug looks
like (they don't even know it is a bug!) because all the scenes
showing the alienbug are cut out! To the tradition of the cut
movies released by the dreaded distributor Showtime, the back of
the video cover has pics of the cut scenes (here including a
picture of the alienbug itself coming out of the mouth of DeVries!).
NOTE: The version which runned in Finnish theatres was rated K16,
and it was shortened as the videoversion (pre-cut by the
distributor). The British cert.18-videoversion (above on the
right) is uncut. The US dvd-version rated 'R' is also uncut, and
widescreen (the 4:3 full screen version is also included).
HIGHLANDER/Highlander - Kuolematon/FI/K16/cut 48 sec. The cuts include some medium violence like Highlander (Christopher Lambert) cutting the head of a another highlander in the beginning of the movie, and some other medium violent content. NOTE: The Finnish videoversion (rated K16) re-release in the 90's was passed uncut. The Finnish dvd-version (rated K15, widescreen) is uncut. The US version is 17 minutes shorter. The 'Director's Cut' version is shortened about 10 minutes.
HIGHLANDER 2 - THE QUICKENING/Highlander 2 - Paluu/FI/K16/cut 1 min 31 sec. The wacko distributor trimmed this piece-of-shit sequel. The cuts include; 1.The scene where the other laughing assassin gets runned over is cut. 2.The decapitation of the second laughing assassin is deleted. 3.The scene where the bodyguard shoots the bossbaddie (lousy Michael Ironside) is reduced. 4.The bossbaddie killing the bodyguard is shortened. 5.The scene where Ramirez (poor Sean Connery), and Highlander (Christopher "wood log number uno" Lambert) break into MAX has heavily lost bullet hits to them both. 6.The bossbaddie killing his "partner" is shortened. 7.The final battle between the bossbaddie and Highlander has been heavily shortened; Highlander snapping his limbs back together is no more, bossbaddie beating Highlander with his sword is no more, Highlander slicing bossbaddie is no more, and of course the decapitation of the bossbaddie is deleted. NOTE: The Finnish videoversion (rated K16) released in the 90's was passed uncut. The British cert.15-videoversion is cut 32 seconds from the violent scenes. The Finnish dvd-version ("The Renegade Version" [the director's cut] of the film) is uncut (and widescreen) with a K16-rating; "The Renegade Version" is partially re-edited (like the entire dumb 'Planet Zeist' sequence is dubbed to alter the plot [the immortals are now banished from the past to the future, not from Planet Zeist to Earth], among other scenes), some content is trimmed, and over 20 minutes of new scenes have been added. At least the "standard version" of this movie, makes you wish that the film-makers would have listened the Highlander in the first part, when he said There can be only one!.
THE HILLS HAVE EYES/Yön Silmät/FIx/cut 45 sec.
The scene where Papa Joe kills grandpa is shortened, the scene
where Papa Joe crucifices the old fart is shortened, the scene
where Dee Wallace stabs Mars in the leg is deleted, the both
scenes where Beast attacks Pluto have been shortened, and the
death of Papa Joe is shortened, and the stabbing of his son as
well. NOTE: The FI-videoversion released in the 90's (above on
the left) suprisingly passed uncut with a K16-rating. The
Australian videoversion is heavily cut. The British cert.18-videoversion
(above on the right) is cut by few seconds; there is a scene
where Mars puts a gun to daughter Carter's mouth and pulls the
trigger (but there are no bullets left). The BBFC didn't like
this cesture, and so the scene is deleted! There are also reports,
that a shot of the gutted dog Beauty is trimmed also from this
version, but this is false. The UK dvd (certified '18', matted
anamorphic widescreen) is uncut.
HOPEAA RAJAN TAKAA/FIc/cut 42 sec. VET ordered that a scene showing the Russian border police retreating under a gun threat, to be cut out ! This was due to the "special relationship" the Finnish goverment had with the Soviets, which caused the banning and censoring of lots of Finnish art (especially literature) considered to be "anti-Soviet". The cut was made during this Finnish movie's (featuring the legendary comedy genius Spede Pasanen!) 1963 premiere release.
HOUSE 2: THE SECOND STORY/Naapurissa
Kummittelee 2/FI/K16/cut 8 sec. One cut has been made to this
comedy (rated 'PG' in the US!). The scene of the shooting a
zombie to the head has been shortened. This is the only scene
where blood is shown in the entire movie! NOTE: The Finnish
widescreen dvd-version rated K15 is uncut.
HOWLING/Ulvonta/FIx/cut 4 min 29 sec.
The cuts include the scene where the woman chops the hand of a
werewolf and the moving severed werewolf hand turns slowly to a
human hand (heavily cut), the werewolf-woman slashing Dee Wallace's
husband to the back, and the cool transformings of men to
werewolf are cut to torso.
HOWLING IV: THE ORIGINAL NIGHTMARE/Huuto Tajunnan Takaa/FI/K16/cut 1 min 27 sec. The cuts include a guy's shoulder (ripped by a werewolf) bleeding, some nasty bodyshots, and the icky melting of the werewolfs.
I:
INFERNO/Inferno 80/FIx/cut about 45 sec. This sequel that has disappointed millions of movie hounds over the years through generations, suffered heavy cuts from the distributor's censor scissors, and adding to that this is the US version, which has scenes removed over 20 minutes worth. A few murders (like the murder of Rose, and the murder of Kazanian) are shortened, and some shots of a man with a knife sticking from his neck (who's spitting blood) are cut. NOTE: The British cert.18-videoversion is cut 28 seconds, eg Kazanian beating a cat against a chair (a pretty cruel shot, actually!), and a cat eating a mouse (!? The BBFC censoring this won't stop cats eating mouses, I can absolutely guarantee that!!). The Anchor Bay dvd is fully uncut, and 1.85:1 widescreen (with an English soundtrack).
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS/Ihmispaholaiset/FI/K16/cut
9 sec. The cuts include Donald Sutherland bashing his dublicate
to pieces, and Donald Sutherland holding a corpse of a woman and
its head decomposing in his hands. NOTE: The Finnish dvd-version
(ws, with a K15-rating) passed uncut.
INVASION USA/FIx/cut 4 min 32 sec. The
rotten distributor Europa Vision trimmed this actioner. The
shooting of an civilian is deleted, and a scene, where bunch of
"refugees" are shot, is very heavily shortened (the fx
was by Tom Savini!). NOTE: The British cert.18-videoversion is
cut 14 seconds from a fistfight (FIx-version has the cut shots
intact). The US dvd (R1, widescreen) is not cut.
I, THE JURY/Minä Olen Tuomari/FIx/cut
51 sec. The distributor shortened the stabbing ( a woman has her
throat slit) in the restaurant, and the shootings. NOTE: The
British cert.18-videoversion is cut 4 (four) minutes!!! Ha ha ha!!!
The FIx-version has some material cut from the UK print intact.
The US R rated-version has been trimmed from the throat-slit.
IVAN GROZNYJ I/Iivana Julma/FIc/K12. This masterpiece by Sergei Eisenstein was cut by the USSR censors before its release in 1945. *The movie originally began with a sequence in Ivan's childhood, which showed his mother being killed in front of him, the Boyar leaders abusing his power, and the young Ivan getting mad at them, and having one executed. Then the movie would have shifted into Ivan's Tsar coronation, which now begins the movie. *A darkly comic sequence showing two cheery gunners, Foma and Erema, in the Kazan battlefield, who are then hanged, was originally included (it was removed because the censors thought that it mispresented the Russian people as "stupid"). *A very dark scene featuring Fyodor Basmanov being in a ritual where he is cast into the Oprichniki (with a circle of blades across his neck), and swearing an oath to the Tsar, was removed. NOTE: All of these scenes, except the "dark oath" scene with Basmanov are included on the 'deleted scenes' section of the extras on The Criterion Collection dvd (which is only available as a part of the "Eisenstein: The Sound Years" dvd box). Only a single still photograph, some designs, and the screenplay (which is much tamer than what appeared to have been ended up as the final result [this was probably done to try to fool the Soviet censors, who also oversaw all the screenplays]) are left of the "dark oath" scene; all film footage is presumedly destroyed, which is a huge shame considering how fantastic the scene sounds. An abridged version of the sequence showing Ivan's childhood which originally began Part I was inserted by Eisenstein as flashbacks into Part II, which was then banned by the Soviet censors (according to critics, the movie presented Ivan as a feeble man with flaws, and Ivan's secret police, the Oprichniki, as a terrorizing group like the Ku Klux Klan). The Finnish video also contains the standard cut version.
